I motherfucking love Dance Area's AA24/7. The original and Diplo mixes are both major staples in all my DJ sets, I just can't resist playing 'em all the fucking time. Its sad but I really haven't heard it enough here in NYC, so its nice that Dance Area / Phantasy were kind enough to release the stems for this jazz. The remix competition over at Discobelle is sure to kick start Dance Area's exposure.
Its really no surprise that Mr. Vega put his super cool touch on AA24/7. You will hear a CouchEdit of this remix at every CouchFire DJ set for a long time, thats for damn sure.
I normally never use this blog to talk about myself and what I do. Well, thats not entirely true but whatever, just indulge me for now, I'm having a rough Sunday. I think I came down with the fabled pulled pork BBQ hangover.
I, CouchFire, did DJ set on Friday at East Village hotspot 205 Club. Well, 205's customer service / management was a disorganized mess that nearly rivaled the absolutely atrocious condition of the DJ booth. Mazes of wires, cobwebs on the CDJs (no joke), broken monitors, ground loop humming, and stripped wires made setting up a veritable nightmare. But beyond that I got free drinks, Anna snuck in "unnoticed", and even though I was DJing on top of a milk crate (also no joke), it was still cruisin, I was there with all of my people.
At around 3 am a very nice young lady comes up to the "DJ booth" and says to me, verbatim-ish, "Hey! you're amazing, can you tell me what the name of this song is?" After a few moments of me shouting into her ear, I directed her eyes to my macbook and pointed to deck B that said:
Just a few days prior, my boy Tyrones and I were rappin' about how much we love brunettes with bangs. Turns out this really inspired my DJ set at 205. I opened with The Bird and The Bee, crescendoed with Feist, and ended with La Roux. (Note: La Roux is totally a ginger sans bangs but here at CouchFire we award her honorary brunette bangs for awesomeness)
And to cap off the whole affair. After DJ M and I packed up our steez, (RIP headphone bag), I heard this water dripping from behind the "DJ booth area." I should also mention it wasn't raining out, and we were very much in the basement. I followed the drip noize, and did some drunken recon... The leak was fairly substantial, it was on the cusp of being a "low pressure showerhead" type situation. Luckily, DJ M reigned it in nicely, he notified the management of the quote-un-quote "Ill Flood". We left. I bet its ankle deep by now.
Sorry about the super shitty/short video, my camera ran out of space. I'll post a live Ill Flood (aka DJ M & CouchFire) mashup laters.
Boys Fucking Noize! There really isn't much that I can tell you about the unibro that you either didn't already know, or couldn't figure out for yourself. But for the 5% of you have been living under a rock for the last blog-mellenia I'll do my best to catch you up. The following is a setlist of the tracks I was able to recognize while shitfaced.
*Note, I scribbled track IDs during the show but the following day I couldn't make out half of them. Shame really...
I just thought I'd interrupt your regularly scheduled dancing, to post two amazing covers by two of my favorite artists at the moment. Royksopp & Little Boots.
I think I've posted something or another related to Boys Noize every day of my blogging life. Of course this is not true, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't still be totally rad in the best way if I had.
Boys Noize Records, which is like the 1995 Chicago Bulls of music labels, are going to be rocking tits at New York's underage friendly Webster Hall in just 3 days. Label mates Shadow Dancer and D.I.M. will be pwning faces as well.
I'm really fucking psyched like woah because I finally get to hear Das Glow's remix of Mirror Error really loud n all. If your reading this Alex, please please please release Mirror error, your crew have been pounding that shit out for a long time now. Stop teasing me.
I know its all like half way through March and all but I haven't put up a CouchFire top 10 since like... 2008. But who really cares about those kinda details? If I realllllly wanted to be sneaky about it I could back-date this fucker, but I'm not exactly sure how to do that...
I probably won't get around to posting a March CouchChart until July or something. So, 'my bad' in advance.
Well Turbo Records really spruced up their internets recently... Just take a look at that new fancy-shamncy site with all that... content. Oh and the Mind Dimension video too. Don't over do it now boys. You want to save some that Turbo Gusto for the 2012 apocalypse...
My my my the boys have really been killing it lately. The Tracks I've heard from Tiga's forthcomming Ciao Tiga are annoyingly catchy, Chromeo's steez is(are?) way too cool for high-school, tbh The Proxy frightens me in my pants area, Kolombo's Sniff is about cocaine (which is like the new disco I think, no no its the old disco?), and that Van Party character did that remix for Moby Dick or something. At this point you may be wondering whats bigger and badder than Pangea? OMNIDANCE!!!!
What the effing H Turbo!? Why can't you be more like the DIM SUM or PBS or something? I'm still not sold on this whole we are going to put-out-the-music-that-we-think-is-cool strategy, it just makes too much sense...
Well its been a longtime since my love affair with Chewy Chocolate Cookies. We still talk n stuff, but I don't think we'll ever be hot n heavy again. Maybe if he sends me his Hey Boy, Hey Girl edit.
But it is nice to see that someone from the maximalist school of electro is still killin' it outrage. This here is the banginest 10 minute mix I've heard since the last one. Its chock-full of forthcoming CCC jazz. Get hyphy!
