Louis La Roche

Remember on Valentines Day all the blogs were sent that song called Love by TB. We all thought it was Thomas Bangalter but it wasn't. It was Louis La Roche. Good story huh.

Lifelike

The end of the year is fast approaching and I really wanted to get to 100 posts by 2009. We'll start with Lifelike.

Geyster - Under The Fuse of Love (Lifelike Remix)

Treasure Fingers - Cross The Dancefloor (Lifelike Remix)

Moby @ (le) Poisson Rouge

I was able to catch Moby at (le) Poisson Rouge again! I don't exactly feel like writing up a huge shitter about it so I will just post some of the music he played. You come here for the music not the banter....

Guru Josh Project - Infinity (Klaas Vocal Re-Edit)

Fake Blood - Mars (Original Mix)

Miles Dyson - Anthem (Original Mix)

Sebastien Tellier @ (le) Poisson Rouge

We're heading to Le Poisson Rouge to see Sebastien Tellier and I’m thinking, “Fuck I'm not drunk or blazed enough to enjoy this” (as per usual). After a long wait with our good friend Rolling Rock, and a space disco set by the hottest DJess I have ever seen, Shitty Dicks Revolution took the stage. The band was fun enough but I could really do without the lead-bitch (who we later saw shoving her way to the front for Tellier. Hearts Revolution could be described as some kind of really intense Ting Tings without everything that makes dance rock awesome.

Tellier appeared on stage... “Tonight is a very special life, I want to talk about my mother…” he said. From the first note of Kilometer the show took off. The set evoked an indescribable emotion that makes chicks throw their panties (he licked a few of them too). And with the swagger of a French Prince, synthesizers on loan from the gods, and guitar hooks that shred with sex, Tellier swept LPR into a debauched frenzy. Growing ever more intimate with the crowd, Tellier romanced us with sweet serenades from his latest album Sexuality while facing a bottle of white wine. All that sex'd up synth-pop took LPR by storm and left us wanting sexy seconds.

Happy Time

I've noticed that this blog has been posting some angry lately (Proxy World Tour, Justice Stress, etc). I think I'll go ahead and break the cycle here.

Golden Filter - Solid Gold

Proxy World Tour?!?!?

This is the best shit EVER!

Digitalism - Home Zone (Proxy Remix)

Proxy - 40 Seconds

Zorch

Tracks with skipping errors (which I masterfully Ableton'd the shit out off), improperly labeled remixes (which were rectified at my request), and somehow-even-more-annoying territory restrictions (about which nothing will be done).... Lets just say Tackitdown.net has been chapping my ass.

But after 15 or so emails exchanged with this support guy named Ben, I managed to get all my requests filled. Which includes a couple free downloads from the store, one of which fell through the territory restrictions cracks. I bring to you, for the first time in the blogospher, Nazis at 320kbps.

Mr. Oizo - Nazis (Justice Remix)

and a popular bonus....

Justice - One Minute To Midnight (NT89 Massive Drums Re-Edit)

I can't believe I am blogging in those bad AM hours.

Move Over Warhol!

I won't bother giving you my opinion... here's the copy n paste.

"This is not hip-hop music. Taking a sample, looping it and doing all that ‘throw your hands up in the sky’ thing has become such a cliche. Hip-hop is over for me. I sing, not rap, on this album. I now want to be grouped among those musicians you see in those old black-and-white photos - the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles. And I’m not going to get there by doing just another rap album full of samples."

"I’ve had to create a whole new musical genre to describe what I’m doing now and I’m calling it ‘pop-art’ - which is not to be confused with the visual art movement."

Give it like three more years and Kanye will be Jesus or something. Wait he's already done that.

Kanye West - The Good Life (HeavyFeet Remix)

Bonus re-upload

Mr. Oizo - Nazis (zsh)

NT89 for the last time!

Well I keep getting requests to re-up this one.

NT89

Last week, when I was blogging about Gaspard's USB dick, I posted a NT89 remix of One Minute to Midnight.
Well that YSI file flew off the shelves and expired in less than 24 hrs. Back my popular demand, here it is again!

Gejius

Ever since.... middle school, I've had an on/off love affair with Huey Lewis and The News. So when a mysterious laptop producer sent me some remix action I had to find out more. Here's a quick Q & A with and aspiring producer... Gejius!

Q: So, what do we in the blogosphere need to know about Gejius? What's with the name?
A: This is a project I began in 2005. I never was a dedicated 'electronic music' kind of guy before starting this project. The tools were given to me by my good friend Grant because, and I quote, "I can see you doing great things with these."

The name was a flub. I was saying something like "oh, Jesus" & "Genius" at the same time, and thus, Gejius was born.

Q: Your productions vary quite a bit from what I've heard. When you begin production do you start with an idea, a sample, a vodka-tonic? Where does the creative process in you stem from? (Man that question is good)
A: All songs start with an idea. Now, whether that idea stemmed from a subconscious idea or melody, a sample I harvested, experimenting with synths or just playing around, I couldn't differentiate which method has more positive end results. And drinking/drugs never bodes well for music creativity for me, personally. You just end up spilling your drink on your keyboard and mixer (done that once) and you kick yourself for it. Not worth it.

Q: The Heart & Soul Remix really stood out for me. Especially since I've been on a disco binge lately. Tell me more about how you went about producing that bad boy.
A: Haha, yeah, Disco has been a fun genre to see reinvented. I love the Italo Disco sound, but fail to reproduce it in the way I hear it in the beginning, but the track always turn out well nonetheless.

The Heart & Soul remix came about after joking about remixing that track. I've loved Huey Lewis & the News for a long time, and I thought it'd be fun to play with that track in particular, since it was dance-y to begin with. The song really developed after I had dedicated it to the Wet Set project with Sean Christensen, where it had purpose, a deeper meaning. It had to relay the emotions in his illustrations and what I saw beyond the neon streaks and star dust, and I feel like giving it a darker, more intense finale was more than fitting for it.

Q: Unlike the majority of the music I feature on my blog your productions aren't really dance-floor ready. But I have this feeling you would hit it out of the park if you tried. I have to admit, dance music tends to follow a cookie-cutter format (ie: intro, buildup, breakdown, build up, outro, all in nice 16-32-64-128 beat-grid segments). Do you follow any format/formula when your producing?
A: Not to knock your question, but I think labels are negative in the creative process. If you feel like becoming a dance producer- great. Do it. But try to innovate beyond the norm. You can't make an impact by following other people.

It's super fun when I write tracks that bust out a solid, continuous groove for people to get down to, but 3/4 of my music wasn't written for the dance floor in mind. I'm writing these for me. If they tend to get dancier, and I feel like that's where it's going, then I go with it. If it's going in a more ambiguous direction, then I see where it takes me.

The only format/formula I follow when writing music is listening. Once I have something that sounds interesting, I listen to what else should be there as well. The music in my head is often much better than what I come up with. The trick is keeping that idea in there long enough to translate it to MIDI or whatever before the original inspiration is lost.

Q: What are your thoughts on the cowbell?
A: I agree with Mr. Walken completely.

Huey Lewis and The News - Heart and Soul (Gejius Remix)

Gejius - Slip 'N' Slide

Fuerza Bruta

Like a lucid-dream during the peak of a decent LSD trip, the Fuerza Bruta experience is a confusing kick in the brain. I could rave about the over-the-top visual stimuli, the surreal sound-scape, or the cute nymphs splish-splashing overhead forever. But I would be hard-pressed to come up with anything that shitloads of other reviewers haven't already shouted from the rooftops.... if not for the extended "DJ-Connection" by NYC's "mack-daddy of mood" David Hollands.
Surprisingly the DJ-Connection isn't just a lame shtick to fill the auditorium on an off-night; Holland's DJ set actually linked the theatrics to the rave. Scenes of jarring gunshot wounds, exploding confetti, Blue Man Group stomping, and Matrix style wall-running, segued into a messy dance party lead by the aforementioned mood-daddy. After all that mise-en-scene, when shit finally began to make sense again, mood-daddy cranked up the choonz and the Daryl Roth theater began to piss on me. Not before checking the restrooms for a hand-dryer, I walked out to Union Square soaking wet. Did I mention its almost December and pneumonia has been known to kill. And the strobe lights!

Owing this experience to the generosity of New York City's rhytmism.com I was given the opportunity to witness a spectacle that makes up for the pneumonia.

The Mustache Responds!

Hey! Remember that time I posted that thing about Justice's Gaspard Auge being useless?
Well Gaspard responded in a quick little dittie on beatportal.com.

“I couldn’t remember the city but I think it was in Manchester,” he said. “I didn’t notice at first, because as you can see I was looking at the computer to launch the next vocal hook and right after I realized that the blue screen went black, so there was no way possible it could work. So I plugged it back in, big deal! And the next thing you know is this picture.”

There are some priceless musings in the comments section also.

"I really have no issues with this as long as they add more lights and explosions to their live show."
-DMnookin

"I thought maybe the guy was practicing his fader and slider movements, before he went to do the real do… Kind of like a baseball player takes swings at nothing in the “on deck circle” before an at bat…"
-sparko8

Personally I don't really give a deuce if the USB dick came prematurely, was never inserted, or is magic. I would be way too smashed to care what was going on stage, just as long as Phantom Pt II is loud enough rattle my ribcage. But as long as we're on the subject, I'm gonna quash all this bullshit surrounding the whole WTF does Gaspard do when Justice DJ's thing...? I'll tell you what he does, and its exponentially more important than anything that can be done with Ableton and/or a MIDI controller. He's stepping up the Ed Banger Mustache Game.

Mind Dimension

Dance-pop super producer Tiga has been on top his game recently. His label has been on fire with Proxy's Dancing in the Dark and Raven EPs. Tiga's side project with Zombie Nation, ZZT, killed it with Lower States of Consciousness and more recently with The Worm. And now the man is set to release his first single since Sexor. Superstar DJ's like Erol Alkan, and 2ManyDJs have been hammering Mind Dimension for months now creating a shit-storm of blog-hype which has inspired a number of false alarms.

The douchebags at LA Friendly and Pedestrian TV wrongfully posted the details of the release.

Mind Dimension Promo Package:
01. The Future Mindimension (Radio Edit)
02. The Future Mindimension (Soulwax Remix)
03. The Future Mindimension (Scissor Sisters Remix)
04. The Future Mindimension (Thomas Von Party & Brad Bamborghihi Remix)
05. The Future Mindimension (Herve's Neverminded Remix)
06. The Future Mindimension (Original Mix)
07. Omnidance

Well I got my hopes up for a HUGE release with the likes of Herve and Soulwax on remixing duties. Unfortunately the release looks like it will only include two tracks. Mindimension 1 and 2. The latter with added production by Soulwax. More info on the forthcoming single here. I posted Mind Dimension 2 on my October CouchChart, its 320kbps but I'm not convinced its the official release ready version. Whatevs....

Anyway, a lot of people are psyched about the new single. Other DJ's are saying good things.
Dj Hell - "I will play it !"
Crookers - “COOL!!!! love both versions...dope traks!”
Brodinski – “amazing Track!!! it's a perfect TRAXXX for the Dancefloor!”
Digitalism – “full support for mind dimension yaman”
Pedro Winter (Ed Banger Recs) – “FULL SUPPPORT FROM THE ED REC CREW X”

Here is an edit to tide you over. Acid!

Tiga - Mind Dimension (Small Saul Edit)

Justice Loves Techno!

Hey Mustachio! Your MIDI Controller isn't plugged in and it ain't doin shit! Stop frontin, you ain't foolin me.

I kid, I kid. I'm sure the USB just slipped out moments before this shot was taken since you were rockin that bitch so hard.

Anyway, I just picked up a this tasty little excerpt from Justice's set last weekend at I Love Techno. It showcases their new Ableton setup and includes some really fun and interesting mixing. I Don't think its is quite as good as the Boys Noize I Love Techno masterpiece that I posted here, but its certainly a lot more French! We likey!

Justice @ I Love Techno 2008

I'll try and work out a track list when I get a minute.

Cross The Universe

Remember when we all got our hands on that Daft Punk @ Coachella Bootleg. You can get that beast here at 320kbps. Some of us were like this is the best shit ever." And some of them were like "this doesn't sound that different." Then when you first heard when Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger blow up into Around The World and the Coachella audience goes ape-shit-nanners, the haters all kept quiet. This is more or less how I feel about these mothers from Justice's forthcoming live CD/DVD shitter.

Justice - Tthhee Ppaarrttyy (live)
Justice - Phantom 1.5 (live)

Reckoner

So the Radiohead Reckoner Remix Competition has turned out quite a few gems. We've all heard Diplo's take on Reckoner, his best work to date IMO. My good friend Messica was kind enough to send me a 320kbps version of his take for me to edit into a dance-floor burner (I'm still working on the CouchFire! Edit, It'll be available soonish).

All this Reckoner speak is leading up to todays post regarding London DJ and Producer Synthetics who is looking for some of that good blog action. I'm glad to oblige since this remix is excellent and likely to land him a coveted spot on the Novemeber CouchChart.

Synthetics describes the remix in a very thoughtful email like such as:
Not quite sure where to begin with this beautiful mix from Synthetics... it's a slow builder that evolves into a warm and fuzzy cosmic jam transporting you away for 8 minutes - epic. Shades of 90's ambient group Seefeel with touches of the Orb-meets-Quiet Village and the Norwegian school of disco (Lindstrom and Prins Thomas etc.) Can't recommend it enough! Vote for it here.

Radiohead - Reckoner
Radiohead - Reckoner (Synthetics 24hr Remix)

Synthetics was also kind enough to agree to a little Q & A for the CouchBlog so we'll be hearing more from this cat. Promise!

Streetlab

Well after stumbling across Streetlab on Halloween somewhere in The Village fiddling with controllers I decided to congratulate them on their fantastic remix of The Chemical Brother's Galvanize. You know just to sound cool and "in-the-know." I heard that remix like a million blogyears ago and I felt somewhat embarrassed that I hadn't followed up on their productions or anything, so the following day, when my hang over passed, I did some myspace investigation only to find that they have been busy busy.... Soon after we got to interweb-chatting and the fellas at Streetlab were kind enough to give me an exclusive interview as well an advanced copy of their forthcoming EP. Here's the goods.

Q: When I saw you guys play out I noticed a ton of nobs and buttons. I'm assuming you were using Ableton, though i didn't notice a laptop. Give me a quick run down of you Live setup.

Coz: We have a laptop, but like to keep it at our feet so that no one can see Windows Media Player playing our whole set. We also don't even have a Mac - so we figured - yea, def hide the laptop and just play our whole 'set' off Windows Media. All those knobs and buttons are just to trick you into thinking we are actually 'performing' our songs....

Ryan: It is easy not to mess up when nothing really does anything. Really it is just about us looking cool. I guess if we wanted to we could have control over all the parts to each song and remix all the parts live, but that would probably be too much work...

Q: As I understand there are two of you in Streetlab. Tell me about your dynamic when you guys produce. Who likes to do play the synths? Do you sample other music? Who is that singing on NY Sound?

Coz: We haven't sampled yet for any of our original songs. A lot of our remixes though started out as sampled ideas - and then just developed into being a remix of the original song. We don't know who is singing in 'NYSound' - the voice just started coming thru the monitors while we were working on the song in the studio. Luckily I was recording and captured it all. We took it as a sign...it was kind of a supernatural experience actually...

Ryan: It really depends. We are both always trying out new stuff running this thing thru that thing etc..and sometimes sounds just come out of nowhere and mysteriously record themselves. We run Ableton on about 4 machines and just go with the flow. One being the master and then the other stations synched up to create ideas.

Q: I know when I play out I almost always get stupid drunk. It gets messy behind the booth.... I sometimes wish I DJ'd as part of a duo so my teammate could takeover. Have either of you gotten so plastered and forgotten what nob controls what?

Coz: This is why we avoid the booth! We have our own rig that we bring with us. No need to shuffle the DJ around for us. This allows us to better keep track of our drinks vs the DJs drinks. You know how that can be. In terms of forgetting whats what with the knobs/buttons etc - see the answer to the question #1.

Ryan: No shots = Control. So far so good. My irish % can handle all the guiness I can intake however I purposely avoid shots before playing cause they are bad news.

Q: What is your drink of choice when your performing? I like vodka-cran.

Coz: Guiness, always. I want a tap on our rig for each song change...

Ryan: Guiness or Harp if they got it but no one ever does.

Q: What was the best show you've ever played? What club/venue are you dying to play out at?

Coz: Ruff Club has recently been the most fun.

Ryan: Dying to play Coachella, WMC, and SXSW

Q: Do either of you have guilty pleasure artists that you listen to when you think no one is watching? I'll start, I really dig The Pussycat Dolls.

Coz: (scans thru his iTunes, I mean Windows Media player...) 311 - the song 'Amber'. I don't think im guilty tho - its a good song. Maybe some Hall & Oats...

Ryan: Hmmm I don't know. Sometimes I will get cheesy songs in my head and have to wash them out but I can't think of anything that I like that I wouldn't want my friends hearing....oh the latest was some song of the Trailer Park Boys movie by The Tragically Hip, Not a bad band but not really my style. I don't think that counts really, I will have to get back to you.

Q: Do you guys like to go to shows, concerts, festivals, and what not? What was the most amazing show you have ever witnessed? Mine is a three-way tie between Radiohead at Bonnaroo in 2006, Daft Punk at Coney Island in 2007, and The Chemical Brothers @ Hammerstein Ballroom in 2007. Radiohead has a slight edge since I was candy-flippin.

Coz: Radiohead (At that island in Montreal). Ive seen RH 3 or so times, and they are just SO on point, i swear they are better live than on record. BRMC also put on a great show - a great 3-piece, raw, straight up no-BS rock. NIN - u will leave exhausted - which means it was a good show :)

Ryan: I would have to say it is between these (The Chemical Brothers at Woodstock 99, NIN at MSG cause we got a private show and I caught a drumstick, STP in 97, BRMC, Daft at Coney was killer, Radiohead outside in Montreal, Pantera 2000 something, Soulwax @ Studio B, Deftones @ The Chance in the 90's, there is more but those stand out the most right now...

The Lightning Round!!

True or False... Disco rules!
Coz: false
Ryan: True

True or False... Trance blows!
Coz: true
Ryan: False

True or False... Wendy's is better than Burger King.
Coz: TRUE.
Ryan: False

True or False... NYC crowds are the best.
Coz: is there a 'NYC' crowd?? or just a lead?
Ryan: (asks magical 8-ball): Ask Again Later

Sarah Palin... 1-10 scale. GO!
Coz: uhhhhhhh the MILF factor u mean? If she doesnt talk: 7
Ryan: 2012 baby

Pirates or Ninjas?
Coz: Pirates - they dont need to be quiet or in the shadows - cause they just dont give a fuck.
Ryan: Ninjas cause they ain't skeevy

Yoga or Pilates?
Coz: Yoga. Pilates is like the "im cooler and different than you" form of Yoga. SO sceney...
Ryan: Both, Pilates first then Yoga. Actually about to do some right now...

LOTR or Star Wars?
Coz: LOTR - Star Wars = LAME! (argue me, come on)
Ryan: LOTR. Star Wars got killed with those last three episodes

And the most important question of them all...
Bassline or melody? There is a right answer.

Coz: Melody. A bassline could be a melody...its how u deliver it.
Ryan: Melody for sure.

Streetlab - NY Sound

Be sure to send Streetlab some myspace love.

I see the future

The much hyped Ed Banger label has been stagnant as of late (with the exception of Mr.Oizo of corse!). After about a year of riding the coatails of Justice's Cross Ed Banger has struggled (IMO) to step up and impress. Luckily Mr. Rihda's Boys Noize Records and Tiga's Turbo Records has taken over as the label du jour. I'm going to write a shortish essay (maybe) on rise and fall of "hype" labels sometime soon so I will keep this post short.

Basically I want to thank Tiga, Boys Noize, and Soulwax for their amazing ability to step up the game. Tiga's Mind Dimension, which is produced by Soulwax, will be my #1 for November for sure.

Xtophe&KEE

Xtophe&KEE are two youngin's from Bakersfield who dig electro and remix and produce some noise. Their sound is very glitchy and blipy with tons of melodic surprises that kind of remind of those old dial up internet days. Their music sounds like the love child of Cumputer Club & ZZT if they burned crack rocks during conception because they couldn't afford an abortion. That may sound harsh but I actually really dig that-good-noise. Here's a small one-on-one-on-one interview I did with Xtophe&Kee that covers all the essentials.

Q: As I understand it there are two people in Xtoph&KEE... what is your dynamic like. Who plays the synth? Who works the crowd live?
A: Xtophe&KEE: When it comes down to recording, we're equally involved...it just depends who DECIDES to work on WHAT. I (KEE) might LOVE a synth sound that Xtophe comes up with, and decide to work with it. OR, Xtophe might dig one of my melodies or whatever and decide to add on too, so...there really isn't any SET stations to our work, we just...collaborate TOGETHER. :P <333 As for live shows...only time will tell..."The Xtophe&KEE Sound" hasn't even really been unveiled yet...KEE'S vocals are set to make a debut in the near future on most of the upcoming original songs.

Q: Which one of you gets wasted in the club?
A: Uh...hahaha!

Q: Have you ever forgotten to settle your bar tab? Wait a minute are you two even old enough to be hanging out in bars?
A: We're 19, bitch. :P

Q: Obviously the Ed Banger, Boys Noize Records, electro blog house thing is a major influence on your sound. What guilty pleasure artists do you dig but are ashamed to admit? Britney? David Guetta? Clay Aiken? I, for one, fucking love The Spice Girls... no joke
A: Xtophe- That girl who does the theme to Kingdom Hearts. :P
KEE - Jump 5.

Q: What was the last song you heard that made you feel sexy? Maybe tooo sexy?
A: Xtophe - It'd probably have to be um, MSTRKRFT's remix of Kylie Minogue (spell check?) - Wow.
KEE - Lil' Wayne - Lollipop

Q: What is more important, melody or bass? There is a right answer...
A: Xtophe- Oh shit!
KEE - Oh man...it HAS to be the bass...it keeps time, as well as provides a whole lot of needed funk. <3

Q: I hear the weather on the left coast is boss. Would you like hella freak out if it snowed 6 feet in 10 hours or would you go sledding on cafeteria lunch trays?
A: Xtophe- Why would I freak out?! I love snow!
KEE - I'm lucky, my house is kinda on a hill. ;)

Q: Wendy's or Burger King? In and Out doesn't count here in NYC.
A: Xtophe- Burger King cuz they have veggie patties.
KEE - WENDY'S!!!...there chicken THUGgets are choice. ;)

Q: I may be going to an illegal warehouse dance party in Brooklyn for Halloween, should I go as Winnie the Pooh or Wolverine?
A: Xtophe: Wolverine, all the way.
KEE: BOTH!

Q: Where would you put Sarah Palin on the 1-10 cougar scale?
A: Xtophe - She's a mothah fuckin' 10!
KEE - Sarah's got bone structure, I'll give her that...but, COUGAR???!!!...naaaaaaaah! I give her a 3.

Q: How many beers (1 beer = 12 oz.) are in a standard keg?
A: Xtophe&KEE: ?!

Q: My alter ego DJ persona, Dr. Lovetek, is working on a fun disco mixtape! How awesome would you say disco is? 1-10...
A: Xtophe - 10, all the way.
KEE - 1,000,000,000

Q: How awesome would you say having an alter ego is? 1-10...
A: Xtophe - probably an 8, cuz I don't have one.
KEE - Devyn is my alter ego and she gets hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!

Q: Which Label is really doing the hot-nasty for you right now?
A) Ed Banger (Justice, Mr. Oizo, Mehdi, etc...)
B) Boys Noize Records (Boys Noize, Shadow Dancer, PUZIQUe, etc..)
C) Turbo Records (Tiga, Proxy, ZZT, etc...)
D) Flool's Gold (A-Track, Nick Catchdubs, Jokers of the Scene, etc...)

Xtophe&KEE: ED BANGER!!!

Danger - 11h30 (Xtophe&KEE Remix)

Xtophe&KEE vs. Santogold - Tesla Coil Creator (Xtophe&KEE Mashup)

Xtophe&KEE - Chocolate

It just seems I can't stop posting left coast electro acts.

Optimus Grime

I just received some inbox love in the form of fantastically weird new remix of left coast favorite Rockland from my brand new myspace friend Optimus Grime. I can't really describe what I'm hearing with mere words, it kind of sound slike fidgety party electro or something like a friendly yet menacing alien chainsaw... wtf do I know, and who the hell cares? Optimus Grime rocks faces!

This a big day for the CouchBlog. Yea I linked myself, what ov it?

So......
Today I had my first run in with the copyright infringement bureaucrats. A lovely sounding, possibly Asian, lady named Grace kindly asked me to take a scalpel to my blog and remove Moby's Disco Lies (Spencer & Hill Remix). So I did. Then the man on wall street (google-blogger) sent me an angry email with links to sites with big words telling me, Doug the plumber.... uhh blogger, that they took a hatchet to my blog-plan and deleted the entire post dedicated to the Degenerates Party here on main street. My friends, I tell you, these mavericks are palling around with terrorists. But I, Doug the blogger, would like to know how big bloggerment bail-out package is going to deregulate my blog future?

Anyway, I got some inbox email love from NONEWYORK. They haven't really been blogged about just yet, and since they are they sent me some original material I assume they want some of that good exposure. I've listened to these and I'm basically madly in love with the NONEWYORK party bounce!

I'm a vehement big apple fan boys, not big on the name.

NONEWYORK - Dance All Night // Then Go Fuck

NONEWYORK - To The Floor

Rockland - You Can't Stop This (NONEWYORK Remix)

A1 BASSLINE - Girl Thing ft Safi (NONEWYORK Dirty Remix)

Give NONEWYORK some myspace love over here.

Big Black Cox.

I still feel kind of dumb as a result of last night's epic Carl Cox show so I'll keep this post necessarily brief.

Carl Cox is the man.

New CouchMix!

Hello kiddies, today CouchFire! is going to teach all-a-y'all how to dance. I do declare that giving man-birth to the Velociraptor of mixtapes has left me rather sore. But the end result is hot-nasty, much like a Scarlett Johansson Sextape.

I Love Techno.

I know I've been going Boys Noize crazy lately, but I just can't help it. After witnessing first hand "The Attack of the Unibros" last week I did some major googling and got my "internet hands" on this motha about a week ago. Now, its not due to be released until the 13th so fucken shhhhhh!!!

Miles asked for a dope mix so this one goes out to Vietnamizzle.

I Love Techno Mixed by Boys Noize (rpdsh)

Cross the Universe.

Well Soulwax and Justice have had the same right idea. Capture all of your antics on video and get SoMe to edit that shit. Charge 40 bucks for it and include a recording of your dopest live show, mayyyybbbbee throw in a few remixes. I have been seriously dying to see Soulwax's Part of The Weekend Never Dies, and now Justice are about to release Across the Universe. Here are their respective teasers.

Soulwax

Justice

Uff!

I really think Uffie expresses herself way better through modeling than singing. She's super hot and I really can't get enough of her bullshit vocals even though she lacks any kind of musical talent.

Uffie - Ready To Uff (zsh)

As per his request this ones goes out to Dan.

Le Castle Vania!

Le Castle Vania has been at the top of my usual rotation since.... forever? Anyway, much to blogodome's delight, Dylan finally released Zero Machine. Kids definitely go ape-shit after the break in this dance-floor monster.

Le Castle Vania - Zero Machine (right click to save)

I think this will be on the next CouchMix.

Fuckin Finally!

Well the Proxy much hyped Raven EP by Ruski madman Proxy finally dropped yesterday, it took bloggers the better part of 24 hours to finally share this bad mofo. Here in its 320 kbps original mix. I will be smiling all week.

Proxy - Raven (Original Mix) (ysi)
Proxy - Raven (Original Mix) (zsh)

Everybody start holding your breath for the remixes. I checked out the Polymorphic joint on the Turbo Rec. myspace shitter and it sounds like it could kill girls in clubs.

Also click on that picture and read the boob ogling article.

Raven!

So tomorrow marks the long awaited arrival of the Proxy's Raven EP on Tiga's Turbo label. The vinyl release will include remixes from Russian power-house producers Polymorphic and Marseille, Les Petits Pilous will be digital only remix. I am super excited about the release since it will most certainly be blogged-outrage. In anticipation for the release I will share with you lovely people a special 20 min mix by the Proxy done for Kissy Sellout's In New DJs We Trust. It gives me a godlike boner.

The Proxy - In New DJ's We Trust

Wu-Tang Disco?

I was very excited to see the that Disco Villains remixed Wu-Tang Clan.

Wu-Tang Clan - Gravel Pit (Disco Villains Remix)

The Unibros Take Over!

A-Trak and Boys Noize skull-fucked New York last night. My mind is so totally pwned I can't even blog straight.

A-Trak - Say Woah (Boys Noize Remix)

Funkasaurus

Today marks a very especial occasion for the CouchBlog. Today will feature an exclusive un-hypemachinable track. Thats right! In hopes attracting more readers (fat chance) I am going to post an unhyped track in all its 320kbps mp3ness glory. That rhymes with penis glory....?

Funkasaurus & Jay Stewart - Rhodes Rage

the PROXY!

I'm starting to think Russia is the new France/Belgium/Australia of dance music. Anyway, I really dig noise and Proxy are holding it down outrage with this epically nasty bomb.

Proxy - 40 Seconds

Things have been kind of slow around here last month. I aim to make up for that in October.

Baltimore of Nazareth

Here's a nice B-more style remix of Justice's epic Waters of Nazareth. I kind of like, I kind of like to original better, but wtf do I know. This real hipster shit.

Justice - Waters of Nazareth (Hump Day Project Remix)

Danger!

I came across this live set from my very favorite masked frog (yes Danger is now cooler than Daft Punk). Anyway this live set is from some dope party down-unda. This set is extremely powerful and fantastic. It wisks you away on a heroic journey into a mysterious jungle in search of treasure and dance. Its like your dancing through a choose your own adventure tale, while on LSD, with heady synths.

Danger Live @ Trashbag Kids Australia

Disco Phoenix

Well I'm not exactly thrilled with Dr. Lovetek so this will be the first and last Disco Phoenix Mix. It seemed like a great idea at the time but I just can't not play electro.

Fuck me right?

Faze Action - Hypnotic (Disco Mix)

Weels And Disco - Funk
KC & The Sunshine Gang - Shake Your Booty (HT Funk Remix)

Acid Jacks - Disco Shoes (Electrixx Remix)
Prince - Erotic City (Computer Club Reflip)
The Loose Cannons - Girls In Hats (Kissy Sell Out Remix)
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Angello & Ingrosso Vocal)

I'm going to post this track because its basically the bee's knees of sexy sexy house music. Sebastien Leger absolutely kills it with this one. Its nice slap bass number about anal. Anal sex that is. If anybody has this one at a higher bit rate please don't hesitate to share. I'm assuming this track is one of those vinyl only joints.

Sebastien Leger - Grab My Hips

The Hot Nasty

The song is seriously fucking hot. I see this one being played latenight at the closing party of Satan's new club, Sinister.

Art fucker vs Peace division - Dirty Blitch Sleaze

Slim Remix

Since I haven't posted in ages so I figured I'd update these pages with a fun remix of Basement Jaxx. Its straight titties.

MGMT Pool Party

On Sunday I had the pleasure of doing some great things at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn. As you may already know McCarren Pool, sponsored by JellyNYC, holds free pool parties each Sunday featuring a lineup of killer bands and local DJs. This last Sunday was the Ting Tings, some other dumb shit, and MGMT.

After parking around the corner, Bradley and I wandered over to the entrance where we saw a line on the far side wrap around the block. But on the near side we encountered the short line. We wandered over to the end of the shorty and looked around all confused like. Some of the volunteers came over and saw their shorty line had grown quite a bit, so they decided to cut if off and send anyone else trying to hop into the shorty off to the long line. So we basically got in the shorty just as it was closed and were ushered into the venue in no more than 15 minutes, I'm sure there were kids who waited 3 hours in line and never got in since the venue reached capacity before MGMT went on. Once we were in God started to piss on Brooklyn.

I took part in all kinds of pleasant activities while it rained, lady gazing, slip n' sliding, dodge-ball, 4-square, and beer. The warm up DJ played some blog-house classics like Justice, The Gossip, M.I.A, and Diplo. Thunder and rain poured in all through the Ting Tings set but eventually cleared up before MGMT.

I had heard of the Ting Tings before but never bothered to check out their music. Thus I was pleasantly surprised when they put on a nice bass heavy, dance-rock show. I dug the sound and got down pretty nice. But MGMT was stellar, possibly better than their Bonnaroo performance.

Global In The Dark

I was scratching myself about an hour ago when I realized that something really sweet should be happening pretty soon. Then it dawned on me, the best way to find out where the heavy clam bake is to roll over to Andrew WK's myspace page and find out what he is up to this weekend. Just as I had already assumed, Andrew WK is likely at his very trendy nightclub Santos' Party House but Moby, who is currently my favorite DJ with a mustache, is at Stratford Upon Avon for the annual Global Gathering music and rolls festival. I checked out the full lineup and features some awesome acts including AssGoblin.

After Kanye West failed at Bonnaroo, and blamed the festival organizers for his tardiness calling them "squid brains" or somethin, he more than likely hates festivals that aren't Lollapalooza. As such Kanye and the Global Gathering folk have decided that "due to the sheer scale of production specification needed for Kanye West's performance on this year's live stage he will be the sole artists appearing on the Friday." There you have it, AssGoblin will have all day to set up his video screens and spaceships or whatever. I wonder if Daft Punk claimed the main stage all day back in 06 or whatever.

I've voiced my opinions on AssGoblin on this blog as well as other forums ad nauseam. Let us speak of the dozens of other amazing acts appearing at GG this weekend. As mentioned above we have Moby who is sure to slay the myspace tent. Sasha, Digweed, Tiesto, Sander Van Doorn, Eric Prdyz, Deadmau5, and John Dahlback, will definitely light up the Global Arena. But we already know that all these DJs are super hot shit, isn't the festival experience more about discovering something new and different. If I were going to Global I would be way more psyched about live sets from Speakerjunk and Etienne de Crecy, Lisa Lashes at Polysexual, Yuksek at the Mixmag Terrace, the Shapeshifters at Nocturnal Grooves, local favorites Judge Jules and Micky Slim, and most all Herve. If you have been keeping up with my blog posts Herve has been all over these pages, as well as a shitload of other blogs, in some form or another. Herve also goes by Sinden, The Count of Monte Crystal, and has a side project with Trevor Loveys called Speakerjunk. All his productions are bomb-diggity, especially his remix of Licky which will make any dance-floor go bananas.

Larry Tee feat. Princess Superstar - Licky (Herve goes low remix)

To My Boy - Model (Sinden Remix)

Sinden & The Count of Monte Cristal - Everybody Rocking (Key of Bald Eagle Edit)

Get down in NYC parks.... for free

An amazing thing about New York city are the plethora of free events located all over. Many of which are totally worth attending, especially since they're free. Let us begin with Central Park's famous Summer Stage. A-Trak, Diplo, and Kid Cudi ripped it up real bad-like. We can expect more of the same from forthcoming performances by The National, Battles, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings, and a very special fundraiser gala thing featuring Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Check out the full schedule here.

McCarren Pool also features some amazing free events. Personally I'm really stoked for the MGMT performance this sunday, as well as the the free plays throughout the summer. Check the full schedule that features free pool parties with bands every Sunday!

Be on the look out for the next Designer High mix, its in the works and really phat.

Etienne de Crazy

I've been for seriously all about Etienne de Crecy since...? Fuck. But he totally stole my idea for his live show. The thing with the boxes, yeah that was my idea for my light show. Fuckers!

Streetlife Remixes.

The Streelife DJs have been my steeez for quite a long time now. Ever since their essential mix, which you can download here, I've been furiously googling and hypeming these English cats. Their remixes are totally bomb. But don't take my word for it, listen for yourself.

Streetlife DJs - Gunn Crime

Alan Braxe - Addicted (Streetlife DJs Cut n Run Dub)

Don't Worry ....It's All Good

The annual hippie haven of All Good Music Festival kicks off this weekend. The affair will feature festival favorites Phil Lesh, Dark Star Orchestra, Franti and Spearhead, and a personal favorite the Brazilian Girls. Check out the schedule that rocks exactly zero overlapping sets.... what the fuck is a festival without overlaps? Make a decision hippies!!

Brazilian Girls - Jique (MSTRKRFFT Remix) (zshare)

CouchMix6

I was going back and forth on this new mix for a couple of days now. As a rule of thumb I try not to spend more than one extra day mulling over a new mix after its finished... it looses its panache if I over-revise the mix. I spent two days on this mix. I trashed the first version of it in favor of this one which I think is way more to the point.

This new edition of The Designer High is disco inspired. Disco will make a serious comeback kids, serious.

CouchFire! - The Designer High (6)

We're going to hold onto the track list for now, just to keep things interesting around here.
